Confiteor

(I Confess)
The Tears of St Peter, After Jusepe de Ribera, 17th Century

The Tears of St Peter, After Jusepe de Ribera, 17th Century

I confess to Almighty God, to Blessed Mary ever Virgin, to Blessed Michael the Archangel, to Blessed John the Baptist, to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, to all the Saints, and to thee, Father, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word, and deed: through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I beseech Blessed Mary ever Virgin, Blessed Michael the Archangel, Blessed John the Baptist, the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, all the Saints, and thee, Father, to pray to the Lord our God for me. Amen.

It is customary to strike the breast three times while praying ‘through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault’ [‘mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa’].

Confiteor Deo omnipotenti, beatæ Mariæ semper Virgini, beato Michaeli Archangelo, beato Ioanni Baptistæ, sanctis Apostolis Petro et Paulo, omnibus Sanctis, et tibi, pater: quia peccavi nimis cogitatione, verbo et opere: mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

Ideo precor beatam Mariam semper Virginem, beatum Michaelem Archangelum, beatum Ioannem Baptistam, sanctos Apostolos Petrum et Paulum, omnes Sanctos, et te, pater, orare pro me ad Dominum Deum nostrum. Amen.

Prayers for Mercy

O God be merciful to me, the sinner.

Deus, propitious esto mihi peccatori.

O Lord, reward us not according to our sins which we have done, neither according to our iniquities.

Domine, non secundum peccata nostra quae fecimus nos, neque secundum iniquitates nostras retribuas nobis.

O Lord, remember not our former iniquities, and be merciful to our sins for Thy Name’s sake.

Domine, ne memineris iniquitatum nostrarum antiquarum et propitious esto peccatis nostris propter nomen tuum.

Holy Trinity, one God, have mercy on us.

Sancta Trinitas, unus Deus, miserere nobis.

From all sin deliver me, O Lord.

Ab omni peccato libera me, Domine.
